Irwin [The Open Linux Collective]IRWIN (Interconnected Reciprocal Worldwide Information Network) is a grassroots collective looking to create a community around a shared Linux computing environment. Users are encouraged to reach out to one another through a variety of platforms
which exist on Irwin, and encouraged to view otheir people's work that is hosted on Irwin. No matter who you are, the Irwin collective would enjoy your piece of shared history (and disk space) on the network.
Irwin is single-handedly managed by me, tunnull, and as such I ask for you to please be considerate when using Irwin.
Irwin automatically provides you with a PAM user, a home directory, and a preconfigured HTTPD public userdir. You are allowed to host files on HTTP, GOPHER, TELNET, or any other service which Irwin provides, whether it be a personal site, an archive of small files, a git-repo archive, or more. You are given shell access, and with this you are allowed to do much of anything you would normally do in a command-line based Linux install. You may run networked programs in this shell, download files, or use it as a remote Linux system to use when in need of one. You may treat Irwin like you would a VPS, but do note it is very 'mom-and-pop'-ish and as such does not have automated systems for you to, say, open a port for a program, or, create a systemd service for your program.
When applying for Irwin, please provide accurate information, as I may want/need to contact you. Your contact information, desired username, and public key will be saved server-side for review. Irwin uses password-less log-ons, whilst you may have a password when interacting with a Shell, your primary log-on through SSH/SFTP will always be guarded by your SSH key alone, if you need this reset, you will have to contact me.
If you believe your Irwin registration was falsely denied, please get in contact with another Irwin member to state your case. I cannot guarantee this will work, but two people's words are better than one's.
When using an Irwin machine, please treat it as you would your own. Your Irwin membership can be revoked at any time for breaking the trust of administrators or other users. Improperly using an Irwin machine (eg. committing illegal acts, actively harming the host machine, tampering with another user's data) will result in your user account being removed, and your hosted files deleted. Campaigning for changes on Irwin is allowed and encouraged, if you would like to create and share a new space on Irwin, you are free to gather support and attempt to make your idea reality.
